Dr. Lena Sandifer was born and raised in York, South Carolina. She graduated in 2006 from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with an Emphasis in Computational Science, magna cum laude, and received her medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, South Carolina in 2010. Dr. Sandifer completed her residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.
While at Wofford College, Dr. Sandifer was a Wofford Scholar and South Carolina Palmetto Scholar, worked as a TA for multiple classes, and was a member of the college quiz bowl team. During medical school, she was a member of the USC Medical Student Association Committee, served as secretary of both the Geriatrics Interest Group and the USCSOM chapter of the American Medical Student Association. While completing her residency, Dr. Sandifer pursued a research project on pediatric obesity, was an active member in the Pediatricians Urging Safety and Health (P.U.S.H.) at Kosair Children’s Hospital, and served on the Pediatrics Residency Leadership Council. Since moving to Pawleys Island, Dr. Sandifer served on the Early Childhood Physicians Advisory Counsel for Tidelands Health and the Early Learning Council of Georgetown County.
Dr. Sandifer is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics by both The American Board of Internal Medicine and The American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Sandifer joined Pawleys Pediatrics and Adult Medicine in 2014. Dr. Sandifer is a member of the American College of Physicians and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Sandifer lives in Pawleys Island with her dog, Daisy. She enjoys gardening, cooking adventures, quilting, road trips, and reading fiction novels when she is not attending to her patients.
